Network of Women for WRC-23 ( NOWSWRC 23)

As part of the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23), the forum “Network of Women for WRC-23 ( NOWSWRC 23)” was held.

The forum program is part of the wider NOWSWRC 23 initiative, which aims to create a vibrant forum for knowledge sharing, networking and mentoring for women in the ITU Radiocommunication Sector ( ITU - R ).

            The launch of the Women's Network for WRC-23 fulfills one of the commitments to implement concrete actions contained in the WRC-19 Gender Declaration, which aims to promote gender equality, equity and parity in the ITU Radiocommunication Sector. Among other decisions of the Radiocommunication Assembly 2023, the result of 4 years of work to implement this Declaration was the adoption of a Resolution on Gender Equality to strengthen, accelerate and expand the active participation of women in the work of the ITU Radiocommunication Sector. 

ITU Secretary- General Doreen Bogdan-Martin made opening remarks and noted the importance of striving for gender equality and women's community development among delegates.

During the meeting, the Regional Co-Chairs of NOWSWRC 23 made a speech, as well as a report on the work done during the WRC-23 research cycle:

    • Ms. Aminata Niang Diagne (Senegal) – Africa (ATU)

    • Ms. Jennifer Manner (USA) – America (CITEL)

    • Ms. Asma Al Meiri (UAE) and Ms. Zeina Mokaddem (Inmarsat)-Arab Group (ASMG)

    • Ms. Zhu Qir (People's Republic of China) – Asia Pacific (APT)

    • Ms. Amela Khatibovich Sehich (Sweden) – Europe (CEPT)

    • Ms. Aizhan Tiyanak (Kazakhstan) – Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC).

NOWSWRC23 Radiocommunication Bureau were: Ilham Ghazi (Terrestrial Services Department), Véronique Glaude and Cessi Karina (Space Services Department).

More than 100 specialists from regional organizations took part in the forum. The forum initiative aims to begin capacity building as early as possible in the preparation for the World Radiocommunication Conference. Committed to achieving greater participation of women in key positions in the run-up to WRC-27 in the work of ITU- R study groups and their working groups, as well as in the activities of regional telecommunication organizations.
