Digital Television standards

In the last few years of the 20th century digital television began to displace analog. There is also a regional division for digital standards as well as analog standards.

DVB-T and DVBT-2 standards

Initially, the DVB digital broadcasting standard was created for satellite broadcasting, but later DVB versions appeared for cable, terrestrial and later for satellite mobile broadcasting. Now there are the following variants of the DVB standard:

• DVB-T and DVB-T2 are an ethereal group, the signal is received by a conventional antenna

• DVB-C – broadcasting standard for cable networks

• DVB-S and DVB-S2 – satellite broadcasting standards

• DVB-H – Satellite standard for mobile devices

Most modern TV models support DVB-T and DVB-T2 standards, that is, they are capable of processing a signal that is received by a conventional antenna.

How DVB-T2 differs from the outdated DVB-T

Technically, DVB-T broadcast 1 transport stream, whereas the 2nd generation standard is capable of transmitting several. Each stream, placed in the so-called multiplex, forms a physical layer channel (PLP).

Translating into a simple language, the main differences between DVB-T2 and DVB-T are as follows:

• increased clarity of the TV image with reduced load on broadcasters;

• increased number of channels within the same frequency range (more TV channels can be broadcast);

The second version of the standard is an improved one. The maximum possible capacity of the broadcast network has been expanded and other technical parameters have been improved. What should we do if the tuner for some reason is not adapted to DVB signal reception or the old TV does not support digital television at all? This issue is solved by buying a digital TV receiver with antenna output (set-top box). It is inexpensive, so there should be no serious problems.

The combination of the new DVB-T2 and MPEG-4 channel coding technology significantly increases the attractiveness of digital TV for operators of multi-program terrestrial TV broadcasting, as it allows to significantly increase the number of transmitted programs in one frequency channel with a width of 8 MHz. This is especially important for increasing the pace of introduction of digital broadcasting in the Republic of Uzbekistan, given the existing difficulties with frequency provision.

When using the MPEG-2/DVB-T combination in the 8 MHz frequency band, a package of 9-11 standard-definition TV programs or 2-3 high-definition programs can be transmitted. At the same time, the maximum number of TV programs in a package depends on the type of content (news, sports, animation, movies, etc.) and on the effectiveness of the statistical remultiplexing function. When using the MPEG-4 compression standard and the DVB-T2 standard, the number of standard definition programs in the package increases to 15-16.

DVB-C Standard

DVB-C is a European digital standard for cable television. It is supported by almost all models of modern televisions intended for sale in Europe. A tuner with this standard is able to correctly process the signal used by cable TV providers.

DVB-S and DVB-S2 standards

How to set up satellite TB? The fact is that signal processing of satellite broadcasting standards DVB-S and DVB-S2 is not provided in all modern televisions. If you intend to watch satellite channels, pay attention to what parameters are indicated in the "Tuner" column. If the standards of group S are specified, it means that to watch satellite TV
